Maggie Chow
Arts and Play society presenter
Vancouver & Penticton
The Chow Studio is a traveling art studio that has been supporting art education from Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast to the South Okanagan Valley since 1990. More than a conventional art studio, we believe that artists of all ages and abilities should never stop learning, and we create playful opportunities for everyone to expand their thinking from a new perspective. Studio founder Maggie Chow has been serving the community with inspired art programs and events for 30 years. Her practice is most significantly influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, and she is a certified artist educator with GOLDEN Artist Paints. She also co-authored Davis Art’s book: Beautiful Stuff from Nature (Edited by Cathy W. Topal and Lella Gandini). Maggie’s experience as a first-generation immigrant has fostered resiliency and profound understanding of a global vision, both of which are deeply ingrained in her art practice. Most recently, Maggie has joined the Robert Bateman Foundation Nature Sketch to promote eco-literacy and inspire appreciation of the natural world. Her latest project with Six Principles Art Lab is curating and producing educational art subscriptions boxes. In addition to my life as a professional artist, I operate a small scale unconventional art consultancy called ”Arts and Play Society” that shares my practices and passion for Early Childhood Education and Art Education in different social contexts and wellness. In her practice also support the "Pedagogy of Play". In my spare time, I enjoy kayaking, seaweed pressing, and “upcycling” salvaged items.
